Let me call you 'sweet art'

PENDLETON — Wondering where to take that special someone on Valentine’s Day? The Pendleton Artist’s Society has an event planned that is sure to be a hit with sweethearts and art lovers.

In honor of the organization’s first-year anniversary and just in time for Valentine’s Day, the nonprofit will be hosting a fundraising “Art from the Heart” on Friday, Feb. 14, from 6 to 11 p.m. at Blu Falls Art & Events Center, 8820 Indiana 9, Pendleton.

Connie Rector, the events coordinator for the artist group, said, “Our committee has worked for three months to create an evening that features good food, dancing, and a host of other not-to-be-missed special treats. And you don’t need a date to attend. This Valentine’s can be a great girls or guys night out.”

After a dinner served by the events center, local disc jockey Jim Noggle will be taking musical requests from those who want to dance the night away. Stephanie Kingen of Sassy Smiles Photo Booth is sure to have people waiting in line to have their picture taken as a memento of their romantic evening, or maybe PAS member Brenda Jarrett will snap their photo.

For those who are camera shy, caricature artist Duane King will be on hand to draw portraits.

The $35 per person fee includes dinner, dancing, photographs, caricature portraits, and a chance to win one of many door prizes.

“In addition to supporting PAS, Art from the Heart is a fantastic bargain for your Valentine’s Day celebration,” Rector said.

During the evening partygoers will want to peruse the silent auction items on display. Members of Pendleton Artist's Society have donated original artwork including a selection of oil, acrylic, and pastel paintings, hand woven baskets, jewelry, fiber arts, and photography. Other auction items include symphony tickets and gift baskets that have been donated by local businesses.

The group's president and Pretty Pear photographer LaRisha Farrell said, “This is PAS’s first major fundraiser. Based on our ticket sales we’ve already had a great response and are hoping to make ‘Art from the Heart’ an annual event.”

For tickets or information about the event, contact Rector, of Gaia Herbals, 123 W. State St. in Pendleton, or call (765) 778-8548. A discount is given for parties of eight or more.
