Computer classes set at Anderson Public Library

ANDERSON — July computer classes at the Anderson Public Library start Tuesday, July 2.

Classes are free, but registration is required. Register at andersonlibrary.net or call 641-2456.

Tuesday, July 2, 6 p.m., Introduction to ComputersIntroduction to Computers — This session is designed for people with little or no computing experience. We will introduce basic computer concepts that include mouse and keyboard skills, basic navigation, terminology, and powering up/properly shutting down the computer.

Wednesday, July 10, 3 p.m., Basic Internet SkillsThis introductory course is designed for people with little or no experience using the Internet. Learn how to use search engines to find the information you want, shortcuts to find answers quickly, and address bars to go directly to websites. Use your new skills to sample some of the offerings of the Internet.

Thursday, July 11, 6 p.m., Beginning EmailLearn how to sign up for a free email account, write and send messages, set up contacts, and use options for personalizing your account. Familiarity with using the Internet is recommended before taking this session.

Tuesday, July 16, 6 p.m., Windows BasicsThis introductory guided tour of Windows is designed with the beginner in mind. Attendees will have hands-on access and learn to perform basic tasks such as navigating through Windows, changing settings, creating shortcuts, opening programs, and saving files.

Thursday, July 18, 6 p.m., Spreadsheet FundamentalsThis course will cover the basic skills for using spreadsheets, from cell navigation and formatting to formulas, functions, and charts. Basic computing skills are required for this session.

Tuesday, July 23, 6 p.m., Using FamilySearch.orgIndiana Room staff will demonstrate how to use the FamilySearch.org website for genealogy research.

Thursday, July 25, 6 p.m., Picture This! A Look at Digital PhotographyInformation will be provided on digital cameras such as specs, functions, image editing software, as well as where to find more information. Get hands-on experience editing photographs. Cameras are not necessary for this course, but basic computing skills are.

Tuesday, July 30, 6 p.m., File ManagementLearn how to manage and organize your computer files. Learn how to create folders and how to move, copy, and back up your files into your new folders. Burning CDs/DVDs and using flash drives will also be discussed.

    A small group of amputees gathered for the Second Annual Show Your Mettle Day at Frazier’s Dairy Maid on Friday. The event, which offered free ice cream to amputees thanks to Prevail Prosthetics and Orthotics, served as a meet and greet to help support limb loss awareness in the community.
