Jay County Heritage festival Oct. 5-6
PORTLAND -- The 11th annual Jay County Heritage Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Jay County Historical Museum, 903 E. Main St., Portland.
Stage presentations, musicians, storytellers, demonstrations of tractors and antique farm equipment, farm and native wild animals, crafters, cider press operation, quilters, weaving, blacksmith, wood carving, pottery, pumpkin painting, reenactors, horse and wagon rides, fall flowers, candle dipping, early American encampments, hands on kids farm area, game and crafts.
A variety of entertainment and food will be available for visitors. Featured foods included kettle cooked ham and beans, kettle cooked chicken and noodles, footlong hot dogs, ice cream, candy, apple fritters, caramel corn, cotton candy and more. Stillwell Manor opens this weekend
ANDERSON -- Stillwell Manor Haunted House opens this weekend in the former Applewood movie theater at 1704 E. 60th St., Anderson.
Prices are $15 for weekdays and Sunday and $18 for Fridays, Saturday and Halloween.
Hours are: Thursdays, Oct. 17 and 24, 7-10; Halloween, 8 to 11 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26, Nov. 1-2, 7 to 11 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 27, 6 to 10 p.m.; and Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 28, 29, 7 to 10 p.m.
$3 off with a donation of three canned goods (people or pet) or an unwrapped new toy. Donations go to local food bank, The Madison County Humane Society and Toys for Tots.
Malloween scheduled for Oct. 29
ANDERSON -- This year’s Malloween Extravaganza will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Mounds Mall, 2109 S. Scatterfield Road, Anderson.
There will be trick-or-treating, candy corn guessing game, pumpkin decorating, creepy crawlers on display from Night Stalkers.
The event is for children 12 and under.
Mexican dinner Sunday
LAPEL -- Daybreak Church, 121 W. 12th St., Lapel, will host a Mexican dinner on Sunday.
Special guest Doug Anderson will be performing. The service begins at 10 a.m. with the dinner to follow immediately.
A freewill offering will be collected.
40&8 to host Sunday breakfast
ANDERSON -- The Madison County Voiture 510, 40&8, 1600 Rangeline Road, will host a breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
The menu will include eggs (cooked to order), hash browns, biscuits and gravy, bacon, coffee, orange juice, and pancakes. Take-out will be available.
Cost is $7 for all-you-can-eat.
Lapel music show Oct. 12
LAPEL -- Saturday, Oct. 12, the Lapel Music Department will present its first major show “Say It With Music” of the school year. The performance will include the LHS Show Choir, Jazz Band and Concert Choir.
The show will feature a variety of music including pop, patriotic and traditional titles. J.R. Howell, Chandler Guion and Scott Cecil, former members of the show choir, will be special guests. The choirs of Ford Street and Trinity United Methodist Church have also been invited to join the high school choirs for a special finale.
The show will start at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Adult admission is $5; student admission is $3. Show Choir Sponsors may use their tickets to be admitted free of charge.
