The Edge plans home-cooked meal away from home

Thanksgiving food will be served to one needy family

ANDERSON, Ind. — Ryan Gaydon said the Thanksgiving meal should be about coming together with family and, of course, eating a delicious meal — not just about peeling potatoes for 20 people or spending hours scrubbing dishes.

“There is a lot going on during the holiday season so we wanted to make things easy for people, give them one less thing to worry about,” said Gaydon, food and beverage director at The Edge. “So we are providing people a good, homemade meal in a place where the family can gather comfortably.”

The Edge, formerly Edgewood Golf and Dining, is preparing a Thanksgiving buffet for Thursday and can accommodate parties as small as one and as large as needed with their intimate pub and dining seating or large banquet rooms, he said. The meal will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. but will be by reservation only, with reservations accepted through the end of the day Wednesday.

The meal includes carved turkey and ham, prime rib, fried chicken, yams, green bean casserole, corn souffle, mashed potatoes, stuffing balls, potato salad, ambrosia salad and an omelet and Belgian waffle station. Desserts will include pumpkin pie, chocolate mousse, cheese cake bites and peanut butter cookies. The meal costs $22.95.

“We have such a tight-knit community, this is a chance for people to dine with their family but also see and visit their neighbors and others in the community,” Gaydon said. “And we want people to still feel like they are having their homemade traditional tasty Thanksgiving meal so everything will be homemade and true to the season giving our guests the ultimate Thanksgiving feast.

Edge General Manager Kris Sandman said working at The Edge is like being a part of family.

“The guests we see every week, it is like they are a part of our family,” she said. “To get to see them enjoy Thanksgiving with their loved ones and being part of that is a true blessing.”

Christopher Evans, food and beverage manager at The Edge, said he’s excited about helping the company give back on Thanksgiving. The Edge is working with Alternatives Inc., a domestic violence and sexual assault shelter and advocacy agency, to find a family in need to invite to the Thanksgiving dinner Thursday.

The facility has been working with Alternatives for some time delivering excess food to the shelter for the families there. They plan to do the same for Thanksgiving but wanted to also welcome a family to dine at The Edge that day.

“This is the real meaning of Thanksgiving — realizing how luck you are and giving back to in need,” Evans said. “We live in a small community so if everyone — especially businesses — did a little bit to help it would go a long way. This is one thing we do for our part.”

After meeting many of the women affiliated with Alternatives, he said his perspective on many things has changed.

“It is something that I’m proud to be a part of,” Evans said.

And like Gaydon, Evans said this meal will help families appreciate their time together that day instead of worrying about preparations.

“It’s great for people to be able to come in and not have to worry about cooking and cleaning up messes,” he said. “It gives everyone more time to sit and talk and enjoy time rather than stressed about if the potatoes are done or if the turkey is burning.”
