Colts sign former Eagles safety

ANDERSON — The new NFL year doesn’t officially begin until March 11, but that’s not slowing down Ryan Grigson.

The Indianapolis Colts general manager completed his third player signing in the past six days Monday, adding former Philadelphia Eagles safety David Sims on a future/reserve contract.

Sims joins former Arena Football League offensive tackle Jack Breckner and former Canadian Football League linebacker Henoc Muamba as additions to the roster since last Wednesday. The Colts also hired former Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski as special assistant to the head coach on Saturday.

It’s not been all about addition for Indianapolis, however. The Colts released offensive guard Justin Anderson on Monday after two injury-plagued years. A seventh-round pick in the 2012 draft, Anderson spent his rookie season on the physically unable to perform list and last season on the injured reserve list.

Sims also sat out last season after being waived by the Eagles at the conclusion of the preseason.

The 5-foot-10, 210-pounder appeared in 15 games for Philadelphia in 2012, making one start. Originally signed by the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2011, Sims also has spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns.

He has eight career tackles and likely will compete for a spot on special teams with the Colts.
