Colts Notebook: McAfee's wrestling dreams just that ... for now

INDIANAPOLIS — Like many things involving Pat McAfee, the story of how the Indianapolis Colts punter obtained a professional wrestling ring is both random and hilarious.

Somehow the topic of starting an indepedent wrestling organization came up during an offseason conversation with his brother, Jason, and McAfee at first laughed the idea off.

But he did a little research anyway and quickly discovered he could buy a ring.

"We got on the internet — you can find anything on the internet — and as soon as I found out that you could buy one, I said that's a great purchase, that'll pay off in the long run," McAfee said Wednesday at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center. "So I bought it. I haven't used it. It's just been sitting in my barn. But later in life, if I want to get into wrestling, I've got a training facility. And if I want to start a wrestling association, I'm already ready to rock."

McAfee has no illusions of building an organization that could rival World Wrestling Entertainment and its kingpin, Vince McMahon.

"What you hope happens is Vince McMahon buys you out," he said. "Because I couldn't do nearly a good enough job as he could. But it would be a lot of fun, and it's always been an interest of mine."

McAfee already has experience between the ropes. In 2009, prior to becoming a seventh-round draft pick, he battled an opponent known as War Pig during an independent show at a civic center in Charleston, W. Va.

After sustaining his share of abuse early in the bout, McAfee used a move known as Sweet Chin Music — a martial-arts style kick popularized by former WWE champion Shawn Michaels — to pin the Pig.
