Legends return to Anderson Speedway Saturday

ANDERSON — Anderson Speedway returns to racing action on Saturday with the Grant Fritz/Greg Dietzen Memorial taking place featuring the Legends.

The McGunegill Engine Performance Late Models, Front Wheel Drives Oval and Thunder Roadsters will also be in action.

Tennessee driver David Moyes III l won his fifth consecutive Grant Fritz/Greg Dietzen Memorial race for the Legends division in 2012. It took Moyes 31 laps to climb from the fifth starting position to the lead, but it wasn’t an easy win as fast qualifier Jack Dossey Jr. stayed glued on his tail.

Although at times Dossey was running faster laps than Moyes on the track, closing to within a car length with 10 laps remaining. With five laps left the two front-runners were running nose to tail before Moyes pulled away getting the win by 1.28 seconds. Robbins held on for third followed by Kyle Baugh with Gerad Miller rounding out the top five.

In the McGunegill Engine Performance Late Models, Ronnie Rose paces the division with a 167-point advantage over Rob Allman. The remainder of the top five includes Jeff Williams, Joe Woodring and Chris Hacker.

Paul Phipps scored his second consecutive feature victory and third overall and now leads Elliott McKinney by 39 points in the Front Wheel Drives Oval division. Third is Jerry Dane with Dylan Hoppes in fourth and Jesse Thomas in fifth position.

The Thunder Roadsters will race at Anderson for the sixth time this year. Marty Griffin has visited the winner’s circle in the last three of four events for the division. James Edsell has scored the victory in the other two races.
