Allman gets late model win at Anderson Speedway

Parham, Chapman, Henson victorious

ANDERSON, Ind. — Rob Allman scored his initial feature win of the season in the McGunegill Engine Performance late models Saturday at Anderson Speedway.

Allman took the lead from the start after the front row of Billy VanMeter and Greg VanAlst were sent to the tail for several false starts.

Once on the point, Allman had to survive six restarts against a trio of drivers wanting the lead by racing side by side. First he was challenged by Danny Trent, then Jeff Marcum and finally Ronnie Rose.

Behind Allman’s front running car, Rose took advantage of the caution periods to climb back through the field after dropping from third to fifth in the early stages of the event.

The final caution flag waved when VanAlst and Marcum tangled in Turn 1 while battling for the fourth position.

Trent, who spun on Lap 14 after contact with Billy VanMeter, charged back to second at the finish by passing Rose with an inside move entering Turn 1.

Following Allman to the checkers were Trent, Rose, Joe Woodring and Brad Anderson.

In Street Stock action, fast-qualifier Calvin Parham recorded his first win of the year, but he was pressed the entire distance by Danny Acrey Jr., Jacob McElfresh and Jimmy Kirby.

Acrey stayed glued to Parham’s tail, hoping the Knightstown driver would make a mistake. Parham refused to surrender the low groove for the entire 40-lap feature that was run without a caution period.

McElfresh used a power move on the outside of Kirby on Lap 18 going down the back straight to claim the third spot followed by Kirby and Tyler Marsh.

Curtis Chapman kept his winning streak in the WMDH Thunder Car division going by recording his third consecutive feature victory.

Rob Allman took the early lead in the conclusion of a May 4 event that was halted by rain, but on Lap 14 got loose coming off the fourth corner which allowed Chapman to take the point.

Chapman was followed to the checkers by Allman and Tom Gossar.

In Front Wheel Drive Figure-8 action, Kevin Henson scored his second consecutive victory, holding off first Elliott McKinney and then Donnie Ellis Jr.

On Lap 8, McKinney and Ellis tangled on the front straight, which sent McKinney into a partial spin and allowed Ellis to claim the second spot. Over the final circuits, McKinney was able to hold off a charging Nick Warner for third.
