Pierce remains perfect in USSA action

ANDERSON – Daleville’s Aaron Pierce remained perfect in USSA Sprint Car Challenge competition, leading all 50 laps at Anderson Speedway on Saturday.

Pierce, who won the Glen Niebel Classic in April, took advantage of the inversion of the top four qualifiers to dominate the event.

Aside from the Pay Less Little 500, which was a USSA point race, Pierce has won every event at the track. The USSA Sprint Car Challenge will conclude its season at Anderson Speedway on Oct. 5.

Starting from the inside of the front row, Pierce got the jump on fast-qualifier Chris Neuenschwander, who moved from the fourth starting position to second on the opening lap.

Behind the two front runners, Joe Swanson and Brian Olson were running third and fourth with Brian Gerster, USSA point leader Tony Hunt and Tyler Roahrig battling for the fifth spot.

After Pierce opened a comfortable lead through the first 18 laps over Neuenschwander, the only caution flag waved when third-place running Swanson made contact with the front straight wall. The lapped car of Don Hamilton got loose coming off the fourth corner, and when Swanson took evasive action he hit the wall.

On the restart, Neuenschwander was able to stay close to Pierce for the next 10 circuits, but from there it was all Pierce’s way winning by three seconds. Third place went to Olson.

The best racing was for the fourth spot between Gerster, Hunt and Roahrig.

The three ran nose to nail for the final 32 laps with Gerster and Hunt holding on to the fourth and fifth positions.

After not recording a victory in more than a month in NASH FM Thunder Car action, Curtis Chapman scored his eighth feature win of the season.

Chapman took the lead from Trent Gossar on a Lap 3 restart with an outside pass on the front straight.
