Church News: Aug. 10

Church to host annual day

ANDERSON — The Pastor’s Aide Committee of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 1540 W. 16th St., will celebrate its annual day on Sunday at the 10:40 a.m. services.

Guest speaker will be Darnell Williams, pastor of New Purpose Ministries of Anderson. He is the son of Pastor Warren and Joyce Williams He is a teacher and mentor for high school students at Anderson Preparatory Academy. The host pastor is the Rev. Edgar Woodall.

Bridges to preach at Edgewood Baptist

ANDERSON — Internationally known author and speaker Jerry Bridges will preach this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. during the Sunday School hour and at the 10:30 a.m. worship service at Edgewood Baptist Church, 3743 Nichol Ave., Anderson.

Youth Sunday at Park Place Church

ANDERSON — This Sunday, Pastor Joshua Weiger and FUSION Youth will lead the 10:30 a.m. worship service at Park Place Church of God, 501 College Drive. The Youth will also share about their experiences on their recent Oklahoma mission trip.

Sunday school for all ages is at 9 a.m.; The Gathering is at 10 a.m. and Morning Worship is at 10:30 am. All are welcome.

Coffee House Worship is at 6 p.m. in Park Place Community Center Room 13. Coffee House Worship is a relaxed community worship experience. For more information regarding services and ministries, visit or contact the church office, 642-0216.

Doug Anderson performing at Parkview Nazarene

ANDERSON — Doug Anderson will sing at Parkview Nazarene, located at 10th Street and Rangeline Road, at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18.

For more information, call 643-5851. Anderson is an original founder of the award-winning Ernie Haase & Signature Sound. He has added new duties as a featured solo artist. Also appearing will be Parkview’s own gospel quartet, The Appointed Quartet. The cost is $10 per person.

    Nine-year-old Skylar King was not a volunteer or even a member of Greater Light Church, which Saturday gave away free school supplies, clothing and food during its annual Greater Light Gives Back event. The boy had played games to win tokens, and then he used them to buy each binder, saying he was giving his prizes away because he wanted to help other people.
