Grace Baptist welcomes new pastor

ANDERSON — This Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Grace Baptist Church, 432 W. Hartman Road, will celebrate the installation of its third pastor in 55 years. The new pastor is 35-year-old Rev. Josh Crockett, the oldest son of Dr. Leigh Crockett, who served as senior pastor at Grace for 30 years and died of cancer last September.

Pastor Josh Crockett's family came to the church in 1984 when he was four years old. All four of Dr. Leigh Crockett's sons have followed his footsteps into full-time Christian ministry. His second son is a theology professor in South Carolina, his third son is a pastor in Pennsylvania and his youngest son is a missionary to the Ivory Coast.

After eight years of college, graduate school and seminary, Josh Crockett returned to Anderson in 2005 to serve as assistant to the pastor and then associate pastor. He ministered with his father for over eight years. He and his wife, Karie, have two daughters, Karis (age 6) and Tessa (age 4), and two sons, Micah (age 2) and his brother, who is expected to arrive next month. He brings fresh vision and energy to the pulpit at Grace, while maintaining the fundamental doctrines that have defined the church since 1958.

The Rev. Doug Stein, who served as Dr. Leigh Crockett's associate pastor for over 15 years, will be the special speaker at the 10:30 morning worship service Sunday. The new pastor and congregation will exchange vows in a church covenant at the end of the service. Afterward a meal and reception for the Crocketts will be served in the Indiana Christian Academy gymnasium. An afternoon praise service at 1:15 p.m. will conclude the day's activities. The community is invited to all of these events.

Church pastor Tyson Priest found out more than 22,000 plastic eggs don’t last long when hundreds of local children are racing to pick them up as quickly as possible. But he didn’t seem to mind.

Tim Hanshew lives by 1 Corinthians 1:18: “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” For the past six years, he has shared that power by carrying a large wooden cross throughout Anderson.
