Dads, daughters create memories

Celebration Church at Arrow Heights hosts dinner and dance

ANDERSON, Ind. — It’s all about sharing an experience and making a happy memory.

Celebration Church at Arrow Heights for the second year is hosting the Just D.A.D. event bringing Daddies And Daughters together to create a special moment in time.

The experience includes dinner, dancing, a candy bar, games and more to promote smiles and happy memories. Dancing features music geared to the occasion, with music like “Just the Two of Us” on the DJ’s playlist.

Celebration’s Pastor Michael Thigpen will be one of the dads out cutting a rug with his daughters again this year. He’s got four of them.

While the special bond between father and daughter is celebrated by the event, Juanita Taylor of Celebration Church at Arrow Heights said it goes beyond that.

“We want to give girls an opportunity to feel special and be treated like a lady,” said Taylor.

The experience is not limited to dads with young daughters; it encompasses folks of any age. It’s also loosely interpreted to include granddads with granddaughters, uncles with nieces or more. It’s a cross-generational opportunity.

Taylor attended last year’s event with her own dad, Clark Taylor, as well as her two daughters, Keaira, 19, and Kyleigh, 15, along with granddaughter, Journey, 1.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Taylor. “It was the first time in a long time I was able to spend that kind of time with my dad.” Taylor said her daughters enjoyed it as well. “They both had a blast.”

Everyone had such a good time that they’re doing it again this year, except this time Taylor’s sisters will join in the fun. “They got jealous,” Taylor laughed.

There were about 100 people at last year’s event. This year, the church is planning for 150.

The event will be held at the Madison Park Church of God, 6607 Providence Dr. Dads get in for $30, tickets for daughters No. 1 and 2 are $20 per daughter. Daughters 3 and beyond are just $5 per daughter. Tickets are available online at www.justdad.org or at Celebration Church at Arrow Heights, 1120 Arrow Avenue in Anderson.

We yearn for peace, a feeling of freedom from commotion and antagonism, of harmony in our relationships, of lack of strife or dissension. What would we do to have peace in our lives?
