Fundraising dinner to help Afghan women and children

MUNCIE — AWAKEN (Afghan Women’s And Kids’ Education & Necessities) Inc. is hosting its 12th annual fundraising dinner on Saturday, April 5, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4800 W. Bradford Drive, Muncie. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The evening includes authentic Afghan cuisine, Afghan rugs and other items for sale, a silent auction and an update on AWAKEN’s work over the past year. Featured speakers will be former Peace Corps workers in Afghanistan.

Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for university and high school students and $15 for children 12 and under. Guests may also purchase a table to seat six for $200. Reservations are due March 28.

The evening’s proceeds will help maintain AWAKEN’s medical clinic, its women’s vocational training and literacy program and educational programs for children and youth in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan.
