Richards to present 32nd annual Newell lectures

ANDERSON — The Anderson University School of Theology and the Center for Christian Leadership will welcome Kent Harold Richards on Monday, Oct. 14, for the 32nd annual Newell Lectures in Biblical Studies. Richards will present lectures focused on “The Role of the Bible in Our Technological Era.”

Richards has served as executive secretary of the Society of Biblical Literature. He has also been active in a number of organizations concerned with biblical studies and has authored or edited more than a dozen books.

Richards will present three lectures and a question-and-answer session in the Adam W. Miller Chapel:

u General Lecture (9-10:15 a.m.): “Biblical Authority in the Wiki Age”

Scholarly Lecture 1 (u 10:30-11:45 a.m.): “Living the Questions”

u Scholarly Lecture 2 (2-3:15 p.m.): “Alterity and Similarity”

u Q & A (3:15-4 p.m.)

Arlo and Helen Newell created the Newell Lectureship in Biblical Studies in 1981 for the purpose of bringing a significant specialist in the field of biblical studies to Anderson University and the School of Theology on an annual basis. The Newell Lectures are one of the longest running lecture series in the United States.

    Nine-year-old Skylar King was not a volunteer or even a member of Greater Light Church, which Saturday gave away free school supplies, clothing and food during its annual Greater Light Gives Back event. The boy had played games to win tokens, and then he used them to buy each binder, saying he was giving his prizes away because he wanted to help other people.
