Gina Kirkland appointed lead pastor at New Horizons

ANDERSON — The Rev. Regina Kirkland has been named lead pastor at New Horizons United Methodist Church in Anderson. Pastor Gina, as she is known by her congregation, has served as campus pastor to New Horizons for the past two years.

“To be chosen by God to lead, to be a pastor, a shepherd, to care for God’s people and congregations, is pretty special. I do it the best I can for God and God’s people,” said Kirkland.

Kirkland's progression to lead pastor marks another step in New Horizons UMC's path.

“Four years ago, New Horizons began phase one of our journey with Pastor Karen Powell when a full professional evaluation followed by careful restructuring and training to learn how to become a healthy effective church occurred," said Kirkland. "Two years ago with Pastor John Hackney, phase two began as we were getting used to our new confidently energized identity and ability to shine as a healthy effective growing church. Now that we are beginning phase three, I feel we are ready to allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us as family actively moving forward in ministry."

Kirkland began the ordination process with the United Methodist Church in 2000. She previously went through the ordination process with the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Kirkland currently resides in Anderson with her husband, Dr. Reginald Kirkland, a retired hospital administrator, and her 3-year-old granddaughter.

Kirkland assumed her new role on July 1. New Horizons United Methodist Church is located at 611 E. 53rd St.
