---- — Hoosier author coming to New Horizons

ANDERSON — Philip Gulley will be at New Horizons United Methodist Church, 611 E 53rd St., on June 22 at 6:30 p.m. for an evening of storytelling and book signing. Tickets will be $15 and are available from the church office (765) 644-0949 or on the website Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit missions and proceeds from book sales will benefit the youth outreach.

Gulley is a Quaker pastor and beloved writer and speaker who has become the voice of small-town American life. An eclectic writer, Gulley is the author of 17 books including the acclaimed Harmony series of novels chronicling life in the eccentric Quaker community of Harmony, Ind. and the best selling Porch Talk series of inspirational and humorous stories. Gulley's memoir, "I Love You, Miss Huddleston: And Other Inappropriate Longings of My Indiana Childhood," recounts his coming-of-age years in Danville, Ind.

In addition, Gulley and co-author James Mulholland describe their progressive worldview in their books, "If Grace Is True" and "If God Is Love," followed by Gulley's books "If the Church Were Christian" and "The Evolution of Faith" which propose a fresh direction for Christianity.

Gulley was raised in Danville where he lives today with his wife, Joan, and their sons, Spencer and Sam, in a comfortable house with a welcoming porch. Many of his characters and recollections are taken from his boyhood in this small Midwestern town.


Church Upon Rock to have concert

ANDERSON — The music ministry of the Church Upon the Rock Baptist Church, 303 E. 29th St., will have its pre-summer musical on Sunday, June 3, at 4 p.m.

Guests will include The Anderson Zion Baptist Church Male Chorus, The King's Daughters, Sister Tashia Pullin, The New HOPE U.M. Church Mass Choir, and others. Everyone is invited to attend. This will be a dress down concert. For information, contact Carol King at 606-8912.

VBS set at East Lynn

ANDERSON — Vacation Bible School will be held at East Lynn Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) the week of June 10 through June 14 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Songs, stories, crafts, games and refreshments will center around the theme "A New Light Shines!" Children from age 4 through 5th grader are invited to attend. Please call (765) 643-7415 to register. Parents and family members will be invited to share in VBS worship at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening. The Rev. Susan M. Cameron is Senior Minister.

Daleville Christian sets VBS dates

DALEVILLE — Daleville Christian Church will hold its annual Vacation Bible School from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, June 24 through Thursday, June 27. There will also be a Parents Night on Thursday, June 27 at 7 p.m.Contact the church office at 378-7473 for more information.

Radio programs scheduled Sundays

ANDERSON — “In God’s Word” sponsors four programs from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. every Sunday on WHBU 1240 AM.

At 7:30 a.m. “Unshackled” is broadcast in English; followed at 8 a.m. by “In God’s Word” with Dean Butgereit. “Love Worth Finding” by Adrian Rogers is at 8:30 a.m. and at 9 a.m. “Unshackled” in Spanish.
