---- — Winford to speak at St. Matthew Church

ANDERSON — The Rev. Doris Winford, pastor emeritus, will be speaking at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 1512 N. Madison Ave., at the 9:30 a.m. worship service. Her message titled, "I'm Not Ashamed of the Gospel," is based on 2 Timothy 1:8-14.

The Sanctuary Choir will sing "One Communion" by Lantz emphasizing the first Sunday in October being World Communion Sunday. Following the service a time of fellowship will take place in Wesley Hall. Sunday School classes for all ages begin at 11 a.m.

The church's current mission emphasis is raising $1,000 for a gate for the security wall around the home of Jason and Rachel Helm in Mozambique. The Helms are serving as missionaries in Mozambique. Donations will be accepted through Oct. 27.

Dreger to preach at AU Theology Chapel

ANDERSON — The Rev. Paul Dreger, Church of God Ministries, will be preaching at the Anderson University School of Theology Chapel at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Tamara Shelton will lead worship and Dr. Arlo Newell will serve as chaplain in residence.

World Communion at First Presbyterian

ANDERSON — First Presbyterian Church, 230 W. Ninth St., will celebrate World Communion on Sunday at the 8 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. services.

An Anderson University student from Nairobi, Joseph Otori, will be giving the message on communication and culture. The church's Chancel Bell Choir will be ringing “Siyahamba” as the prelude, and the Liturgical Dance Team will be dancing to "We Are." Communion will be served, with different breads and different languages spoken to celebrate World Communion.

An ethnic potluck pitch-in will be served afterward in Fellowship Hall. All are welcome.

Pastor appreciation service Sunday

ANDERSON — The 40th annual celebration and appreciation service for Pastor Samuel L. King and Lady Pearlen King will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Greater St. Mark Church, 2232 Dewey St.

Specials guest will be Pastor Alonzo Aron of Greater Light Church of God in Christ of Indianapolis and churches from Marion.

Telfer to discuss impact of media

ANDERSON — On Sunday, Calvary Baptist Church, 3030 E. 10th St., welcomes Phillip Telfer, who travels extensively speaking on the impact of media on our society.

Telfer founded Media Talk 101, a nonprofit organization and he wrote, produced and co-directed a documentary, "Captivated," which addresses media and technology and the growing need for discernment.

There are three free public events: Sunday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m. Child care will be provided. He will also be speaking in several area high schools.

A pastor's Q&A is planned Wednesday, 10 a.m. to noon. There is no cost to attend.

Gospel concert to benefit two charities

NEW CASTLE — Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service is sponsoring a gospel concert on Friday, Oct. 11.

The Dixie Melody Boys will be featured and Adam's Voice will be opening for them. The concert will be begin 7 p.m. at Memorial Wesleyan Church, 2701 N. Memorial Drive, New Castle. Admission is free with a donation of a canned or nonperishable food item.

The donations will benefit The Christian Love Help Center in New Castle and also Blue River Community Harvest in Carthage. Refreshments will be served after the concert in the fellowship hall of the church for an opportunity to meet and greet the groups.

Women's Day at Christ Temple Church

ANDERSON — Christ Temple Church, 1610 W. 22nd St., will host its annual Women's Day on Saturday, Oct. 12.

A free luncheon will take place at noon. Speakers will be Corena Levi, Deborah Robinson, Carolyn Davis and Joe Ann Allen.

On Sunday, Oct. 13, at the 11:30 a.m. service, the speaker will be Shirley Bowens, Jesus of Nazareth, Indianapolis. At 4:30 p.m. Portia O'Neal of Christ Temple Church, Indianapolis, will speak.

Shirley church to host free festival

SHIRLEY — Grant City Wesleyan Church, 4387 S. Grant City Road, will have a free Harvest Festival for the community on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Sunday school is at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:30 a.m. A free dinner begins at noon. Free festivities from 1 to 5 p.m. include hayrides, pumpkins for kids, face painting, family pictures, fire truck, bingo and gospel music.

Outreach Ministry Day to be celebrated

ANDERSON — Anderson Zion Baptist Church, 2008 Rev. J.T. Menifee St., will celebrate its annual Outreach Ministry Day at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13.

Pastor James Streeter and New Berean congregation will be the special guests.

Wallace Temple to have fall revival

ANDERSON — Wallace Temple AME Zion Church, 1518 Forkner St., will have a fall revival on Oct. 17 and 18. Services at 7 p.m.

Revivalist will be the Rev. Dr. Twana A. Harris, pastor of Stewart Memorial CME Church in Indianapolis.

The Rev. Antuawn J. Johnson is pastor of Wallace Temple.
