Specials guest will be Pastor Alonzo Aron of Greater Light Church of God in Christ of Indianapolis and churches from Marion.

Telfer to discuss impact of media

ANDERSON — On Sunday, Calvary Baptist Church, 3030 E. 10th St., welcomes Phillip Telfer, who travels extensively speaking on the impact of media on our society.

Telfer founded Media Talk 101, a nonprofit organization and he wrote, produced and co-directed a documentary, "Captivated," which addresses media and technology and the growing need for discernment.

There are three free public events: Sunday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m. Child care will be provided. He will also be speaking in several area high schools.

A pastor's Q&A is planned Wednesday, 10 a.m. to noon. There is no cost to attend.

Gospel concert to benefit two charities

NEW CASTLE — Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service is sponsoring a gospel concert on Friday, Oct. 11.

The Dixie Melody Boys will be featured and Adam's Voice will be opening for them. The concert will be begin 7 p.m. at Memorial Wesleyan Church, 2701 N. Memorial Drive, New Castle. Admission is free with a donation of a canned or nonperishable food item.

The donations will benefit The Christian Love Help Center in New Castle and also Blue River Community Harvest in Carthage. Refreshments will be served after the concert in the fellowship hall of the church for an opportunity to meet and greet the groups.

Women's Day at Christ Temple Church

ANDERSON — Christ Temple Church, 1610 W. 22nd St., will host its annual Women's Day on Saturday, Oct. 12.

A free luncheon will take place at noon. Speakers will be Corena Levi, Deborah Robinson, Carolyn Davis and Joe Ann Allen.

On Sunday, Oct. 13, at the 11:30 a.m. service, the speaker will be Shirley Bowens, Jesus of Nazareth, Indianapolis. At 4:30 p.m. Portia O'Neal of Christ Temple Church, Indianapolis, will speak.

    Nine-year-old Skylar King was not a volunteer or even a member of Greater Light Church, which Saturday gave away free school supplies, clothing and food during its annual Greater Light Gives Back event. The boy had played games to win tokens, and then he used them to buy each binder, saying he was giving his prizes away because he wanted to help other people.
