Church News: Oct. 26

Bethel Baptist plans homecoming

LAPEL — Bethel Baptist Church, 3308 Indiana 13, Lapel, will have its homecoming weekend today and Sunday.

At 6 p.m. this evening The Rochester Family will perform. Sunday at 10 a.m. music will be provided by the group and preaching by Pastor Dillard Cole, followed by a noon meal.

Associate Pastor Jimmy Gilbert will preach at 1:30 p.m. There will be no Sunday School or evening service.

SOT cancels Tuesday chapel

ANDERSON — The School of Theology is canceling its chapel for Tuesday, Oct. 29. The School of Theology will be joining undergrad chapel at Reardon on Oct. 29 at 11 a.m. to hear Dr. Allan Boesak speak.

Boesak, of South Africa, is a visiting professor at Christian Theological Seminary and was involved in the dissolution of apartheid and the reconciliation of the nation.

Parkview Wesleyan hosts Conquerors Quartet

CHESTERFIELD — The Conquerors Quartet, based out of Evansville, will be at The Parkview Wesleyan Church, 27 E. Main St. in Chesterfield, for the morning worship service at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, Oct. 27.

The Conquerors have been traveling and singing for the past 23 years. Their style is unmistakably Southern Gospel, although there is variety in the quartet's song selection that covers a wide spectrum of material. The Conquerors have been invited to sing at the National Quartet Convention for the past four years. In 2012 at the National Quartet Convention, they were declared Featured Artist Showcase Winners.

Pastor Paul Trent invites the community to worship with them this Sunday morning.

ANDERSON — Christ Temple Church, 1610 W. 22nd St., will host its 10th annual Men's Convention Nov. 1-3. The schedule is as follows:

Friday, Nov. 1, 7:30 p.m., speaker, Elder Anthony Elliott, Greater Love, Indianapolis.

Sunday, Nov. 3, 11:30 a.m., speaker, Elder Eddie Robinson III, Christ Temple, Anderson.

Sunday, Nov. 3, 4:30 p.m., speaker, District Royce Fields, Bethesda Temple, Indianapolis.

  • NWS - HB0408 - Crash Sperrys 2 Family, friends bid farewell to Jesse Sperry

    The fussing of 10-day-old Autumn Marie Sperry seemed to coincide with the beginning of the funeral service for her father, Jesse Sperry, whose body rested just a few feet away. More than 200 friends and family members gathered at Edgewood Baptist Church this afternoon to pay their respects to Jesse, who was killed April 6 in a traffic accident on Indiana 32.

Later, he continued to stray from the script by hopping off his popemobile to pose for "selfies" with young people and also sipping tea passed to him from the crowd.
