Robert L. Gray

Robert L. Gray, 79, of Anderson, died Aug. 4, 2006, at his residence, following an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 4, 1926, in Anderson, where he lived his entire life.

He was a graduate of Anderson High School.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In 1986, Robert retired from Guide Lamp Division of General Motors after 33 years of service.

He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 663. Robert loved to play music, loved his grandchildren and was an avid fisherman.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Dorothy (Shepard) Gray; sons, Johnnie Sparkman and girlfriend, Lisa Porter, Danny and wife Yvonne Gray, Robert Joe Gray and Robert Justin Gray, all of Anderson; daughters, Cathy and husband John Livingston of Swansea, S.C., Carolyn and husband Don Gilliland of Celina, Ohio, and Irma and husband David Trueblood and Roberta Scherer, all of Anderson; brothers, Frank and wife Sharon Gray of Spooner, Wis., and Tom and wife Shirley Gray, Glen and wife Debbie Gray and Tim Gray, all of Anderson; sisters, Dorothy Gustin of Pendleton, and Doris Devilbiss and June Hinkle, both of Anderson; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are special friends, Louie and wife Kay Minton of Spooner, Wis., and Bill and Laquita Overshiner of Anderson.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Irma (Williamson) Gray; siblings, Jack and wife Penny Gray, George Gray, Joe Gray, Paul Gray, Jean and husband Red Gibson, and Martha Gray.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory, South Chapel, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, officiated by Jim Harrison. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 266.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the South Chapel.
