ACS board candidates forum Thursday

ANDERSON, Ind. — Voters in the Anderson Community Schools district will have an opportunity to question candidates for four open school board seats that will be decided in the May 4 primary election.

Thursday night’s forum presented by the League of Women Voters of Anderson and The Herald Bulletin will feature questions submitted by readers on the newspaper’s Web site as well as questions submitted by those in attendance.

“One of the main goals of The League of Women Voters of Anderson is educating about issues and candidates,” LWV Anderson Vice President Joyce Moore said. “Forums offer us a great venue for doing this.”

Moore said that with four of seven seats open, and three incumbents choosing not to run, the forum could give voters a sense of where candidates see the local public schools going.

“I think particularly now, everyone’s concerned about the direction of Anderson Community Schools,” she said.

“We always get a lot of good information out of these,” said LWV Anderson Secretary Mary Graves. “It brings out people’s personalities.”

 The event is not a debate, but the rules will allow each candidate one minute to speak to each question posed. Graves said every candidate received an invitation, confirmed by certified mail.
