Area Roundup: Argylls' Webster blanks Bruins

ALEXANDRIA — Madison-Grant’s bats provided plenty of offense on Wednesday night for its Central Indiana Conference season-opener.
Unfortunately, its gloves were a little less efficient as Alexandria defeated the M-G Argylls 5-4 on a walk-off passed ball.
Suffering the tough loss, Argylls’ starter Sara Webster went seven innings, scattering four hits, walking two and striking out seven.
Class 2A Madison-Grant (5-3, 0-1) held the lead 3-1 entering the bottom of the fourth, but several errors flipped the score 4-3.
Class 2A Alexandria (6-5, 1-0) scored their first run on a passed ball. Sarah Almack earned the win for the Tigers.
Argylls’ Bonnie Parker slugged a two-run home run in the fourth, her first longball of the year, to go with a double. Dana Runyan hit her third home run this year in the second inning to give Madison-Grant a 1-0 lead.
Alexandria’s Kylie Bischof finished 3-for-4 with two doubles. Chelsea Baledge scored the winning run.
SHENANDOAH 11, NEW CASTLE 4
Limited the night before, the Shenandoah Raiders’ offense erupted at home against visiting New Castle, leading to a sound 11-4 victory.
The Class 2A Raiders scored eight runs through the first two innings to jump ahead 8-1. Shenandoah (2-3) added a three-run bottom of the sixth to finalize the tally, racking up 10 hits overall.
Yardley Collett recorded the win, pitching a complete game with six strikeouts and no walks.
Laken Goff went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a double. Stacy Kinnett went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair. Emily Hayes finished 1-for-2 with two RBI.
