H.S. Sports Roundup: No. 1 Arabians split at Ben Davis

INDIANAPOLIS — Pendleton Heights’ softball team, ranked No. 1 in the most recent Class 4A poll, went 2-2 in games played Friday and Saturday at the Ben Davis Tournament, running its record to 11-3.
The Arabians lost 4-3 to Perry Meridian on Friday, then followed that up with a 9-3 win Saturday over Decatur Central, a 7-0 loss to Class 4A No. 10 Franklin Central and a 12-0, five-inning win over North Central.
Shonda Garringer went 2-for-4 against Perry Meridian and Decatur Central, and tripled against Franklin Central. Erin Falkenberry was 3-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBIs against Decatur Central, then went 4-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and a triple against North Central. Lainie Dishroon earned the win in both games for the Arabians.

Scots winners at Muncie Central Relays
MUNCIE — For the first time in school history, the Highland boys track team walked away from the Muncie Central Relays winners, sprinting ahead of the competition in dominant fashion.
Behind five first-place medals, three runner-up placements and three third-place finishes, the Madison County champion Scots tallied 109 team points with Huntington North second overall at 90. Muncie South was third at the event’s 70th annual running.
Scots’ junior Jamie Mallory collected four four ribbons on the day, placing first in the 100-meter dash and also as a member of the 400-meter relay team composed of Nathan Walters, Trey Messer and Maurice Hall.
He added a second-place finish in the sprint-medley relay along with Derrick Hill, Messer and Hall.
Mallory joined with Sam Nunn, Hill and Justin Lark for a third--place run in the 1,600 meter relay.
Sophomore D. J. Taylor finished second in the two-mile run with a school-record time of 9:52.
Ethan Wilkinson won the pole vault. Kerry Detienne was first in the shot put and Hill was first in the high jump.
Detienne also garnered a third-place finish in the discus. Earlie Ivey was runner-up in the long jump, and Tyler Moore was third in the high jump.
