AREA ROUNDUP: Argylls win in 16 innings

Madison-Grant claimed the softball championship of the Blackford Invitational by surviving a 16-inning marathon in the title game against the host Bruins.
The Argylls (18-3) were the first team on the board in the game with a pair of runs in the top of the final inning. Kendra Stitt singled and stole second base. Shelby Wells singled to drive in Stitt for what would prove to be the winning run. Wells went to second on the throw home and Sam Fields singled her in with an insurance run.
Sara Webster pitched the final 13 innings of shutout ball to get the win. It was win No. 13 of the season.

Blackford 2, Highland 0
Highland 5, Delta 2
In the opening game for the Scots at Blackford, they managed six hits but no runs. Katie Lee suffered the loss despite not giving up any earned runs.
Six Highland players had one single apiece.
In the second contest, Highland got two hits apiece from Jessica Jones, Jarah Ice and Kayla Byrne. Lee gave up two earned runs but got the win. The Scots are 17-6 on the season.

Alexandria 4-0, Mississinewa 0-7
Sarah Almack limited the Indians to five hits in the opening-game shutout and had a single of her own. She struck out seven and walked nobody.
Adrea DiRuzza contributed a double for Alexandria.
In the second game, catcher Kylie Bischof had two of the Tigers’ four hits. Alexandria is 15-9 overall and 5-1 in the Central Indiana Conference. The Tigers can lock up a share of the league title by defeating Blackford on Monday.

Tennis
Frankton wins tournament
The Eagles rode spotless performances by their top two doubles teams to a win in this four-team tournament. Lapel was second, Elwood third and Madison-Grant fourth.
Carissa Ward and Kaylie Ritenour teamed for two wins as did the team of Mollee Deckard and Candace McDonald.
Lapel was runner-up on the strength of two wins each by Jill Gentry and JoJo Gentry at the top two singles spots.

Golf
Scots third at Invite
Highland’s Austin Stegman shot a 75 for third medalist honors as the Scots finished behind only champion Richmond and runner-up Connersville in this 11-team tournament.
Andrew Hanna had an 81 for the second best Highland score.

Baseball
Pendleton Heights 8-11, Rushville 5-3
The Arabian bats came alive in this twin bill as they recorded 20 hits in 13 times at bat.
In the opener Clint McCord had three hits and drove in two runs while Ben Cronk, Nick Hathcoat and Nick Burke had two hits apiece.
In the second contest, Sean Collins had a double and a home run with four RBIs. McCord added two more hits to run his total to five for the day. The Arabians are 15-6.

Highland 5-10, Alexandria 4-0
Joey Hart had two doubles while Chase Freeman and Spenser Benge each had two hits and an RBI in the opening-game win.
Freeman added two more hits, two runs and two RBIs in the second contest. Brad Kindred opened the nightcap with a home run. Trevor Humes pitched a five-inning shutout and struck out six Tigers.
