Senior Lindsey Beisser pitched a perfect game for the Pendleton Heights softball team on Thursday as it blanked Yorktown, 5-0, clinching an outright Hoosier Heritage Conference title in the process.
Not to be outdone, senior Erin Falkenberry smacked a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to set the program’s career standard with 24 round-trippers.
Shonda Garringer produced three hits and scored three runs for the Arabians, now 22-5 overall and 8-0 in the HHC standings.
Frankton 4, Sheridan 0
A four-run sixth frame was all the scoring the host Eagles would need in getting past Sheridan.
Bre Shively notched the victory for Frankton (15-7) with a complete-game effort that included eight strikeouts and three walks. Felicia Roudebush came through with a double and two RBIs for the hosts, who are at the Class 2A Lapel Sectional on Monday against the host Bulldogs.
Alexandria 7, Tipton 0
The visiting Tigers warmed up for next week’s Lapel Sectional by shutting out Tipton on the strength of pitcher Sarah Almack’s two-hitter.
Almack walked two Blue Devils batters and fanned 10. At the plate, Erin Overman collected three hits, including a pair of doubles for Alexandria (17-10).
Lapel 3, Wes-Del 2
The Bulldogs touched the plate twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to improve to 12-12 entering Saturday’s doubleheader against Shenandoah.
Stephanie Murdock produced two hits for Lapel, including the game-winning RBI. Freshman Leigh Murphy also finished with two hits.
Highland 6, Muncie Central 1
Freshman Krosley Ogden had two hits for the Scots (18-8), while Stormy Holder hit a home run and Krista Davis drove in two Highland runs.
Boys golf
Yorktown 164, Shenandoah 201
The Tigers took full advantage of the home-course advantage as Yorktown’s Joe Gasser’s 38 proved medalist worthy at The Players Club.
For the Raiders, Jacob Moore shot 46, T.J. Colwell a 48, Josh Bousman a 51. Also for Shenandoah, Zach Williams fired a 56 and Bristin Jones a 59.
Muncie Central 177, Tipton 182, Anderson 188
Spencer Morris shot a 9-hole score of 43, yet the Indians still wound up third in the triangular meet at The Players Club.
Also breaking 50 for Anderson (5-11) were Patrick Freeman and Kyle Cantrell with 48s and Eric Elpers with a 49. Nate Smith shot 50 for AHS, Austin Amos had a 55 and Chase Austin produced a 64.
Baseball
Daleville 5, Shenandoah 3
The visiting Broncos, ranked ninth in Class A, produced three runs in the top of the first inning and then held off the Raiders.
Cole House scored a run for Shenandoah (5-10) and Danny Johns came through with two hits.
Elwood 6, Eastbrook 1
The host Panthers wrapped up their second consecutive Central Indiana Conference championship in style by defeating Class 3A No. 10 Eastbrook.
Kevin Worsley had three hits for the Panthers (16-4, 6-1) with Troy Worsley adding two. On the hill, senior Nate Wills went the distance, allowing three hits and striking out nine. Wills also finished with two hits and two RBIs.
Greenfield-Central 4, Highland 1
The visiting Scots dropped to 10-11 by losing to the Cougars. For Highland, Taylor Hopkins and Kolin Jarrett each delivered two hits.
Liberty Christian 12, Lakeview Christian 0
Ray Vartanian had two hits and two runs for the Lions (6-10), who received solid pitching from Josh Freeman, who struck out 10 and walked none.
Cam DeFur’s base hit drove in a pair of runs for Liberty Christian, which is at Indianapolis Washington on Saturday for a doubleheader.
