Friday area roundup: Tennis classic under way

ANDERSON — Ellen Thalls of Middletown and Hannah Ruegsegger of Greenfield needed three sets to decide a winner, and it was Thalls on the winning side of the ledger with a 6-7, 6-1, 10-8 three-set victory in the girls varsity singles division Friday during day one of the Community Hospital Anderson Tennis Classic at Anderson University.
In another three-set affair in girls varsity action, Emily Vetor defeated Caroline Wilson 3-6, 7-5, 10-6.
In the boys varsity singles, Jay Ginther of Carmel downed Anderson’s Eric Elpers in two sets 6-2, 6-2.
In the boys 14 singles, Zach Vetor of Middletown was victorious over Alexander Winter of Gas City 7-5, 6-1.

Hockett falls to Muncie
ANDERSON — The Anderson Hockett American Legion Post 127 baseball team closed out the home portion of its regular season schedule with an 8-2 loss to Muncie at Memorial Field on Friday evening.
Elwood graduate Troy Worsley generated the offense for the home team with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Worsley was 2-for-2 in the game adding a double to go with his long ball.
Nate Clem (Pendleton Heights), Ben Cronk (Pendleton Heights) and Nate Wills (Elwood) were each 1-for-3 for Hockett. Clem scored a run while Wills recorded a triple.
Wills went the distance for Hockett giving up eight hits and four walks while tallying nine strikeouts.
Anderson (16-6) travels to Richmond today for a noon doubleheader at McBride Stadium for the regular-season finale.
