Frankton repeats different win over Liberty

FRANKTON, Ind. — Frankton repeated a Madison County Tournament victory over Liberty Christian in result only Thursday night, 66-49.

The Eagles won by a scant point in the county, but that wasn't the only difference.

"We wanted to play at a completely different tempo," said Frankton coach Brent Brobston. "We didn't want the game played up and down the court because I think that's the kind of game Liberty Christian wants. We wanted to play it in half-court and I think, for the most part we did that."

The patience offensively in the first half opened up a big 16 minutes for Jordan Reeves, who hit all of his field goals and his way to 12 points by intermission. He hit just one basket in the second halof but was still among Frankton's leading scorers in a balanced attack.

The Lions were playing a bit short-handed as Preston Quinn missed the game fighting a battle with tendinitis. He started the game but was removed at the first dead ball situation. Quincey Hiatt did not suit up for the contest.

Aaron Korn had a game-high 18 points for the Eagles, followed by 14 from Austin Compton and 10 by Nick Wright. Wright also had another item on his list of things to do — guard Liberty's standout backcourt player Chris Nunn.

Nunn ended the game with 10 points, hitting 30 percent of his shots.

"Nick did a fantastioc job on him," said Brobston.

Franklin Nunn and Vincent Phillips tied for team-high scoring honors for the Lions with a dozen points apiece.

Neither team was able to generate any offensive rhythm due to the 51 free throws attempted by the two teams combined. The Eagles hit 23-of-30 from the line, but only half of the 10 they tried in the fourth quarter.

Frankton also enjoyed a 36-27 advantage in rebounding. Compton had nine boards and Korn seven to pace the home team. Phillips had 10 for the Lions.

The Eagles are 14-2 and will next play Saturday afternoon at Blackford in their continuing quest for a Central Indiana Conference titloe.

The Lions are 11-6 and will host Muncie Burris on Saturday evening.
