---- — ELWOOD — After pulling off one of the great comebacks in girls basketball sectional history, Madison-Grant proved to be no match for Elwood in Friday’s Class 2A semifinals, dropping a 65-34 decision.

Taylor Noone put up seven of Elwood’s nine points in the first quarter, and the Argylls (3-18) turned the ball over 12 times.

Madison-Grant shot 5-of-7 in the second period but again couldn’t hold onto the ball with 10 more turnovers. The Argylls were outscored 22-12 as the Panthers (17-5) started to run away with the game by taking a 31-16 lead into the half.

Jordyn Wright paced Elwood with six points, and Jesse Noone poured in five with three of those coming from the charity stripe.

Jesse Noone stayed hot the rest of the game, scoring 18 of her game-high 20 points in the final 24 minutes, and the Panthers outscored their Central Indiana Conference rivals 34-18 after halftime.

Madison-Grant got a solid performance from senior Cierra Liddick who knocked down 10 of her team-high 14 points in the final 16 minutes. She also led the Argylls with seven rebounds.

Taylor Noone capped off a solid night for Elwood with 16 points and nailed 4-of-7 shots from 3-point range. She was followed by reserve Mackenzie Wilson’s 12 points.

Wright scored six of her seven points in the second quarter and led her team with six rebounds.

Madison-Grant’s Lauren McGuire followed Liddick’s 14 points with eight, and no one else scored more than four for the Argylls.

The Argylls overcame a 30-8 halftime deficit to defeat Alexandria 43-42 in Wednesday’s opening round, but there was no comeback to be had against the Panthers.

Elwood will take on fifth-ranked Tipton tonight in the championship game. In a game that was much closer than the final score indicated, the Blue Devils beat the Panthers 81-69 on Dec. 11 on Elwood’s home court.
