PH's McCammon dives into regional

After a strong showing Thursday, the Arabians were a little frustrated with their results Saturday but it is not because they swam poorly. The host Royals and Fishers both saw swimmers pick up as much as four or five seconds from their times in Thursday’s preliminaries, which set the field for Saturday’s final.

“Some of the individuals that were highly seeded didn’t realize that some of Hamilton Southeastern (swimmers) do not give their best effort on Thursday,” said Maydak. “We’re not of the caliber that we can take it easy on Thursday and get the job done. I think they were surprised by some of the placings and how they tumbled.”

It showed in the 100 fly, where Fredericks tied for the No. 1 seed in the prelim but finished fourth, and in the 100 free, where Parrish was second Thursday but was third Saturday.

Both swimmers finished close to their prelim times, but the winners picked up between two and three seconds from their times on Thursday.

McCammon had a shaky first dive but came back with two solid performances to earn his second straight regional appearance. “McCammon dove great today,” Maydak said. “I think that’s a personal best for him. He’s been fantastic for us all season long and continues to impress. There was some real competition between second, third and fourth but he really came on when he needed to, his last two dives were superb.”

McCammon fell just short of his goal of 500 points, scoring 495.75. Pendleton seniors competing in their final meet included Young, Casper Guldager and diver Mats Klink, who wound up ninth. Ryan Reske is listed on two relay teams but did not compete.

Anderson coach Jeff Eddy was happy with his team’s performance after the Indians scored 188 points to come home sixth. “We had some good times today, we had some times that weren’t quite where I wanted them to be, but I cannot complain with the effort,” Eddy said. “It is a great group of young men, and I’m very proud of them.”
