---- — PENDLETON — A night after a thrilling overtime win against visiting Mt Vernon, the Pendleton Heights boys basketball team showed no signs of a letdown in 61-51 victory against Connersville on Saturday night.

Levi Buck got the scoring started for the Arabians with seven points in the first quarter. Kenton Dunham added two 3-pointers to give Pendleton Heights a 15-3 lead, the biggest of the night.

Connersville closed to within five points three times in the second quarter but still trailed 27-18 edge at halftime.

The Spartans hung around in the third quarter, thanks mainly to Ty Miller’s 3-point barrage. Miller hit his first six attempts before missing with 6:40 left in the game.

Miller drained a baseline jumper with his foot on the line to bring Connersville within 27-26, but Dunham connected on a three-point play, and Caleb Hardy scored inside to give Pendleton Heights breathing room.

Buck, who only had one basket after the first quarter, helped Pendleton Heights ice the game in the fourth by hitting 8 of 10 free throws. He finished with 17 points. Dunham was the leading scorer with 22.

The Arabians scored 20 points in the fourth quarter, and 15 came from the free-throw line. The Arabians hit 16-of-21 free throws overall, while Connersville was just 3-for-7 from the charity stripe.

Miller hit a 3-pointer to start the fourth and bring Connersville to within three, but Pendleton Heights again quickly extended the lead.

Pendleton Heights (3-1) will visit Westfield on Tuesday.
