Angie Colip: Anderson USBC is forging ahead

The new Anderson USBC Association has been formed, a board has been selected and plans are well underway for the upcoming year.

The new board consists of President Lionel Stewart, Vice-President Chris Kendall, Second Vice-President Ashley Wallace and Sergeant-At-Arms Shanna Bass.

Sterling Rogers, Tom Ferguson, Margie Chapel, Bill Kendall, Sr. and Connie Miller will be 2-year board directors. Steve Davis, Terry Ellis, Jim Talkington and Chip Bonvillain will be 1-year board directors.

The first board meeting will take place on Wednesday, Apr. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of Cooper’s Sport Bowl. An association manager will be elected at this time. All resumes for this position must be submitted no later than Monday, Apr. 15.

This year has been an exciting year. There have been so many 300 games shot that I have not gotten all of them into this column. To play catch up, I am listing all that I have. Some may or may not have been mentioned earlier. Eric Petty, Dustin Robinson, Vernie Powell, Dustin Burge, Jimmy Hendricks, Tom McCord, Tim Jarvis, J Wallace, Steve Colip, Terry Buckner, James Buckner, Dave Gadberry, Dwayne Hildreth, Russ Weiandt and Austin Creamer. Kayla Rector is the only woman to roll perfection.

Jason McCord has rolled six 300 games this year. His goal has been realized. This is the most 300 games he has shot in one season. If I have neglected to mention anyone, I apologize. This is all of the information that I have been given from Cooper’s.

The only 800’s reported out of Cooper’s are Kayla Rector with an 835 and Jason McCord with an 813.

As the season began, way back in August, I heard many complaints about the 10 pin not carrying. Twenty-two perfect games have made their way into the record books this season, so somewhere along the way, that 10 pin has learned to fall. I would venture to say that this could be the most 300 games shot in one season. No one can remember there ever being more.

The Best of the Best Tournament will be held on April 21 beginning at 11:00 at Cooper’s. Check in time is 10:30. To qualify a man must have shot a 700 series this season and a woman must have shot a 600 series. You must have participated in a 30-36 week program and been a rostered team member. Subs are not eligible. This is a free tournament for those that meet the criteria.

There will be a three game scratch qualifier, with the top five bowlers in each division advancing to the step ladder. The top three finishers in each division will receive prize money. First place receives $600, second $300 and third $150.

As this season comes to an end in the next few weeks, many leagues will be having their end of the year pay-outs and banquets. If you have any information that you would like me to get out there, let me know.

Bjoern Werner's rookie training camp was rather quiet. The German-born outside linebacker went through individual drills and worked hard in full-team sessions, but he was overwhelmed by all the new information he was processing. And it was holding him back. When the season started, Werner was further set back by a foot injury that cost him three games, and he finished the year with just 2.5 sacks. Then the former Florida State star went to work.
