Dan Patch features Hall of Famers

ANDERSON, Ind. — A Hall of Fame driver, a Hall of Fame trainer and the defending champ highlight the 10-horse field for tonight’s 20th running of the Dan Patch Invitational.

The race carries a purse of $200,000 and will be the 11th race on the card. First post is 5:30 p.m. and the Dan Patch will have an approximate post of 9:30.

Rockincam, trained by R. Nifty Norman and driven by Jason Dillander, returns to defend his 2012 Dan Patch title. He has raced seven times this season and has won twice, raking in $72,750 in the process. He will come from post No. 4 and has morning line odds of 7-2.

Hall of Fame driver John Campbell, who has amassed more money as a harness driver than anyone in the history of the sport, will come to Anderson to drive A Rocknroll Dance. Campbell is behind the 9-2 shot, but the horse has raced just once this year and finished sixth. A Rocknroll Dance is one of four millionaire horses in the field. Aracache Hanover, Bolt The Duer and Up The Credit are the others.

Up The Credit is trained by Carl Jamieson and will be driven by Trace Tetrick. Jamieson was recently named to the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.

Up The Credit has raced six times in 2012 and won twice, but those were his last two starts and both came earlier this month.

Jamieson told the Daily Racing Form, “He’s a very nice horse. He’s on top of his game. I think he’s coming into his own right now.”

Fred And Ginger will come from post No. 5 for driver Ricky Macomber Jr. The horse is trained by Ron Burke, who has a Dan Patch victory on his resume.

The morning line favorite is Hurrikane Kingcole, coming out of the No. 1 post for driver Brett Miller. He has the fastest lifetime mark in the field, 1:47.3, set a year ago at the Meadowlands.

HRTV will carry the Dan Patch Invitational as well as several other races on the card. On-air personality Peter Lurie will provide live commentary. He has covered the Indiana Derby in the past but this will be his first trip to Hoosier Park for the Dan Patch.

Other activities at the Anderson track include a driver autograph session beginning at 4 p.m., a $25,000 guaranteed superfecta, a $10,000 guaranteed Pick 4, bungee jumps, a zip line, hot air balloon rides, helicopter rides and free fireworks approximately 30 minutes after the final race.

Robert Mathis is caught in an interesting predicament. The veteran outside linebacker finds himself preparing as hard as he can to play a football season that he will watch for the first month on television. That's the result of a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy, and it means fans will see less of the league's reigning sack champion on the practice field.
