ANDERSON, Ind. —
Former Highland star Linc Darner’s Florida Southern men’s basketball team defeated Alabama-Huntsville 90-88 on Tuesday night to win the NCAA Div. II South Regional.
The eighth-ranked Moccasins scored five points in the final 46 seconds to pull off the win. Kevin Capers started things by making one of two free throws to cut the deficit to 88-86.
Cameron Vines tied the game with a layup with 35 seconds left, and Dominic Lane provided the winning points on a pair of free throws with two seconds to play.
Seth Evans, who led all scorers with 31 points, stole the ball with one second remaining to seal the win for Florida Southern.
Frankton’s Jon Gardner tied for a team-high with seven rebounds for the Mocs.
Darner will now coach the team in the Elite Eight which begins March 28 at Louisville’s Freedom Hall.
