Lofty expectations set at golf sectionals

ANDERSON, Ind. — ANDERSON — It was established in the Madison County Tournament a month ago and now is the time to validate it.

Pendleton Heights won the team title and Anderson's Morgan Nadaline was the individual champion. Now the Arabians and Nadaline will travel to different venues on Saturday as the IHSAA State Tournament gets underway with sectional action.

The Arabians, led by junior golfer Emily Tilton, will try to best the 10-team field or at least be in the top three teams that will advance to next week's regional.

"The IHSAA moved us to the Mt. Vernon Sectional played at Old Oakland," said PH coach Tom Harvey. "Mt. Vernon and New Palestine are the ones we will be competing against along with Whiteland. Don't know about some of the other teams but we must play better to make it out. We've had a lull and I see signs of coming out of it but the time is now."

Tilton qualified for the state tournament a year ago. She would like to repeat that feat and a little more this season. She finished third as an individual in the County, logging the best score of any golfer on the back nine.

Play starts at Old Oakland at 12:30 p.m.

Nadaline will be on more familiar grounds. She won her fourth straight County crown a month ago and ultimately will be shooting for her fourth appearance at the state.

The Indians play at The Edge Saturday where a shotgun start will begin at 9 a.m. Included in that field will be No. 5 Noblesville and No. 6 Hamilton Southeastern.

"Our sectional will be a very difficult one to advance out of as a team," said Anderson coach Bob Windlan. "I would think that HSE and Noblesville would be the two top teams. The third place team will be hotly contested with Fishers, Lapel, Hamilton Heights and Anderson vying for that position. I believe that I have the best individual player in the field, which is Morgan Nadaline. I am hoping that she would be the medalist and advance to the regional as an individual if the team does not get out."
