INDIANAPOLIS — Butler head basketball coach Brad Stevens has been hired by the Boston Celtics, the university announced on its website today.

According to The Herald Bulletin’s news gathering partner WISH-TV, Stevens issued a statement reading, in part: "Our family is thrilled for the opportunity given to us by the leadership of the Boston Celtics, but it is emotional to leave a place that we have called home for the past 13 years."

Stevens helped build Butler into a nationally recognized program, taking the team to the back-to-back NCAA national championship games in 2010 and 2011.
