Quinn, Wilkerson aid all-star wins

ANDERSON — The final two games of the sixth annual Indiana Class Basketball All-Star Classic featured the seniors of each class in Indiana boys high school basketball at Anderson University on Saturday evening. Both games were close and competitive from start to finish.

In Game 1 between 1A and 2A, Liberty Christian’s Preston Quinn played for victorious Team Wilkerson, which defeated Team Benson 88-86.

Quinn hit only two shots, but one was huge. The second basket Quinn drained was a 3-pointer from the right wing that gave his squad a 75-73 lead with a little more than three minutes left. It was a lead that they would not relinquish.

On the ensuing Team Benson possession, Quinn grabbed a rebound and sent the ball down the floor as Team Wilkerson pulled out to a four-point edge.

“I just found the spot and knocked the shot down,” said Quinn of the 3.

Team Wilkerson had trailed since early in the first half before Quinn’s shot.

“It’s weird because I can’t holler at him anymore,” said a smiling Liberty Christian coach Jason Chappell. “It’s a great reward for a great kid. I love seeing him out there.”

Quinn wrapped up a successful career at Liberty Christian with more than 1,000 career points and several team accomplishments. The Lions won three straight sectional titles along with a regional championship this past season and a trip to the semistate.

“My freshman year we struggled, but it was all building up to what we did the last three years,” said Quinn.

“When he came in, I think we won five games,” said Chappell. “But he just stuck with it through thick and thin.”

In Game 2, the 3A and 4A players took to the court as Anderson’s Kenya Wilkerson suited up for Team Benson and had an impact in all areas.
