Nadaline again wins Jr. PGA title

Nadaline wins second Indiana Junior PGA Championship in three years

ANDERSON—After a less than stellar summer of individual tournaments, Anderson senior golfer Morgan Nadaline said she was really in need of back-to-back solid rounds of golf to prepare her for success in her final season of high school golf this fall.

Although Friday’s round at Honeywell Golf Course in the Indiana Section Jr. PGA Championship didn’t quite live up to her standards, she managed to run away with the title — her second in three years — and clinch an invite to play at Trump National Golf Club in Washington D.C. July 30 to Aug. 2 in the Junior PGA Championship.

She finished the tournament with a two-day total of a five-over-par 147 to win by three strokes over Marion’s Kayla Adamson.

Nadaline completed Thursday’s round with a one-under score of 70, giving her a comfortable four-stroke lead over Claire Cameron of Martinsville going into Friday’s final round.

“I knew I had a big enough lead and enough room that if I didn’t play as well today, I knew I had a cushion there to help,” Nadaline said.

The Anderson senior said that her putting game was especially on par Thursday, allowing her to cash in on several birdie opportunities on the fairly short course which stands at just over 5,000 yards from the women’s tees.

Friday, she digressed. Her iron shots weren’t putting her close enough to be in a good position to have a decent shot at birdie, and her putting game wasn’t quite as sharp either, but she managed to sustain her lead and pull off the victory.

“Today when I started not playing well, I got more nervous because I had to step it up and play a little better,” she said. “The girls I was playing with (Cameron and Amanda Detmer) were the ones I was worried about the most because they were the ones who could put up really good scores and were the biggest competitors I had.
