Proctor completes Western with a 74

ANDERSON — Colin Proctor carded a 74 on the final day to finish the Western Junior Championship with a +7 score of 291, good for 50th place.

The Western Junior is the oldest junior tournament in the country and 156 of the best players in the United States gathered to compete.

"I didn't play my best," said Proctor, who will be a senior at Pendleton Heights this coming school year. "Pretty much everyone in the field is going to a major college golf program. It is the best junior players in the country. I think my game is very close to being able to win this tournament."

He finished 20 shots in back of California's Collin Morikawa, who won the tournament by five strokes, never shooting a score as high as 70 for the four rounds.

The event was held at the Meridian Hills Country Club in Indianapolis.

"The course fits my game perfectly," said Proctor. "That shows that I didn't play my best, the fact that I wasn't in contention. The greens were fast and smooth. The course was in perfect shape."

Even though he didn't play quiote up to his exacting standards, he still felt the event was a good experience at this stage of his career.

"It is a fun tournament," said Proctor. "They treat you like you're somebody there. I probably knew 30 or 40 of the golfers there."

There were 13 players who beat par for the tournament. Evansville's Dylan Meyer matched the winner stroke-for-stroke over the final three rounds. Meyer finished in second with a 276.

On the horizon for Proctor is the Under Armour/Jeff Overton Championship beginning July 1 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind.

"I've always played Otter Creek well," said Proctor. "It is demanding off the tee and I'm hitting it straight off the tee right now."

There will be 144 golfers in the field. The cut will be made after the first two rounds and those surviving will play the final round.
