Pendleton Heights, Frankton to meet for net title

Pendleton Heights and Frankton advanced to today’s Madison County Championship title match after posting very different victories.

The Lady Arabian tennis team advanced after defeating the Alexandria Tigers 4-1.

In first singles, Emma McCardwell opened the score netting a 6-0, 6-2 win against Alexandria’s Abbie Miller.

At No. 3 singles, Sam Hammel barely broke sweat after breezing through a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alisha Paddock securing a two-point lead over the Lady Tigers.

Strong court play was seen in No. 2 singles when Carly Wilson of Pendleton put away Hannah Libler 6-3, 6-2.

Twins Audrey and Kayleigh Corn rallied to beat Anna Etherington and Kennedy Aiman 6-2, 6-4 for No. 1 doubles match win. PH’s Haley Augsburger and Randy Stoker could not overcome Macie Cox and Sarah Holder in two doubles battling a tough match and falling 4-6, 4-6.

Pendleton takes a 4-0 mark into today’s match.

Tiebreaker to break tiebreaker

For Frankton, it came down to a No. 1 singles tie-breaker to put away Lapel.

Frankton’s Sydney Wagoner of No. 3 singles put away Emma Busch 6-0, 6-0 opening the score of the semifinal team match.

In No. 2 singles, Lucy Browning netted a 6-0, 6-3 effort over Gabby Heary to lead a two-point advantage. Frankton’s Emma Wagoner and Gabby Ochoa fell to No. 1 doubles team Rachel Falls and Kaitlyn Dobbins 2-6, 2-6 adding the Lady Bulldogs first point on the board.

Two doubles carried over to three sets but Abby Morgan and Hannah Hodson could not come on top to Haily Scribler and Peyton Dobbins 6-4, 2-6, 2-6 knotting the team score.

No. 1 singles Alexys Rastetter was made to work to overcome tough opponent Lexi Allen of Lapel to break tie and advance to championship round.

The contest ended when Rastetter rallied Allen and reached tiebreaker breaking through with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) victory.
