ANDERSON - After claiming the 2014 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday, the Anderson University softball team will travel to Illinois Wesleyan University this weekend for the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament.
The No. 2-seeded Ravens will take on No. 3 Fontbonne (34-5) on Friday. AU defeated the Griffins 4-1 in the season opener this season in Clermont, Fla.
Anderson will be making its fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Div. III National Tournament, including their second trip to Illinois Wesleyan in the last three years. The Ravens are 29-7 this season and are making the program's seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament. Illinois Wesleyan will enter the tourney with a 37-5 record. The other teams in the regional are No. 4 seed Lake Forest (26-8) and No. 1 seed Illinois Wesleyan (37-5).
The double-elimination tournament's opening round games will be played on Friday. The losing teams will face each other and the winning teams will also play on Saturday. The two 1-1 teams will play an additional game on Saturday, leaving just two teams to play for the regional title on Sunday.
