Area roundup: Arabians win fifth straight HHC golf crown

YORKTOWN — ‘Hoosier Heritage Champions’ was the title the Pendleton Heights golf team walked away with Saturday after having shot a 319. The victors do not shy away from the name as it is their fifth straight conference championship crown.

New Castle closely shadowed but came up seven strokes short finishing with 326 and Yorktown was third at 329.

Trevor Denny was the medalist with a 75, one shot better than teammate Colin Proctor. Chase Simpson and Tyler Meyer each matched an 84, and Zach Farrer had an 87.

The Arabians (7-1) host Greenfield-Central on Tuesday.

Girls TennisArabians take second at HHC

NEW PALESTINE — The Pendleton Heights tennis team finished in second place at the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet, after taking home a 3-2 win against New Palestine.

All three singles players — Emma McCardwell, Carly Wilson and Sam Hammel — closed out the team win, while one and two doubles battled but could not conquer their opponents.

The Arabians’ completed a 5-1 HHC record, finishing behind only 13th-ranked Delta.

The Arabians (16-1) visit Hamilton Southeastern on Monday.

BaseballTigers narrowly sweep Raiders

ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria came out on top over local rival Shenandoah in a doubleheader by scores of 1-0 and 7-6.

Kolby Haas was on the rubber for the first six innings for Alexandria. Both teams could not break the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh when the Tigers drove in the game’s only run.

In the second game, Shenandoah led 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, leaving Alexandria with its last chance at bat.

Blaize Kelly scored the first run for the Tigers, and Braxton Moore answered with a two-run single to close the comeback win.

Alexandria (14-9) hosts Pendleton Heights on Monday.

The German-born outside linebacker went through individual drills and worked hard in full-team sessions, but he was overwhelmed by all the new information he was processing. And it was holding him back. When the season started, Werner was further set back by a foot injury that cost him three games, and he finished the year with just 2.5 sacks. Then the former Florida State star went to work.

Left guard Donald Thomas hit the ground following an 11-on-11 running drill and was visibly upset when he finally was helped to his feet. He threw his mouthguard away in anger and attempted to walk off the injury with trainers away from the rest of his teammates.
