Independence Day show features Figure 8s, fireworks

ANDERSON — Anderson Speedway’s Independence Day Celebration featuring Figure 8 Madness and huge fireworks show is set for today.

The Figure 8 Madness program will include IOFS Outlaw Figure 8’s, IOFS Front Wheel Drive Figure 8’s, IOFS Super Karts and Trailer Races on the Figure 8.

The IOFS Outlaw Figure 8’s will make their third appearance at Anderson Speedway on July 4th, serving as the headline event in their 50-lap main event. Charlie Hargraves will look to extend his winning streak to three consecutive victories. That string of wins would be the most consecutive Outlaw Figure 8 victories since R.J. Norton during the 2001-2002 seasons.

In the most recent IOFS Outlaw Figure 8 event on June 14, Hargraves prevailed after an intense battle with 2012 series champion Jeremy Vanderhoof. The first season victory for Hargraves took place on May 20, when he finished ahead Jessie Tunney with Ben Tunney.

Elliott McKinney is the most recent winner in the IOFS Front Wheel Drive Figure 8 division, taking the checkered flag on June 14. McKinney also paces the Anderson Speedway Front Wheel Dive Figure 8 standings, with a 15 point lead over Kevin Henson. The remainder of the top five includes Mark Allman, Jamie Valentine and Brian McKinney.

The IOFS Super Karts will return for a second time this year and compete in a 15-lap feature. David Reynolds earned the victory on June 22 crossing the finish line ahead of Dustin Kares and Rick McNaily.

The Trailer Race on the Figure 8 will also be part of the exciting racing program. The action-packed event will be a 10 lap race.

After the racing program concludes, a huge fireworks show will be offered.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with the racing beginning at 8. Admission is $12 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6-12. Children 5 and under get in free.
