Raiders roll in season opener

DALEVILLE — Shenandoah got off to a flying start to the 2013-14 boys basketball season, scoring the first 10 points en route to a 57-31 victory over Daleville on Wednesday night in the season opener for both teams.

The Raiders hit their first six shots and forced five Bronco turnovers as they took control of the game in the first two minutes. They finished the quarter with a 22-6 lead while shooting 75 percent from the field with just one turnover and forced Daleville into eight miscues.

Jared Wininger led the Raiders with 16 points and four assists, hitting 5 of 7 field goals, including all four of his 3-point attempts.

Gavin Griggs had nine points for Shenandoah, and Stephen Marshall added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds to go with three steals. Eric Demick had eight points, three rebounds and two assists, and Terick Warner added seven points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Daleville was led by Bryce Stephens with 15 points, three rebounds and two steals, hitting 5 of 12 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers. Garrett Craig had five points, five rebounds and three steals, and Levi Floyd added four points and five offensive rebounds.

Shenandoah shot 55 percent from the field, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range while Daleville was at 30 percent shooting, including 2-of-9 from behind the arc.

The Broncos had a 31-23 advantage on the boards, including 17-7 on the offensive glass. However, the Raiders had the edge in points in the paint (32-18), turnovers (17-25), points off turnovers (18-8), assists (13-4) and steals (14-9).

Daleville (0-1) travels to South Adams on Saturday at 7 p.m. Shenandoah (1-0) hosts Blue River on Saturday night at 7:30.
