Frankton flies past Taylor 89-45

FRANKTON — Frankton blitzed Taylor over the first two quarters to settle the issue in a convincing 89-45 victory over the Titans Saturday night.

The Eagles allowed the visitors just 12 points in the first half and forcing 24 turnovers from Taylor during that time span was one of the keys.

Frankton used the 6-foot-5 frame and impressive wingspan of senior Aaron Korn at the top of a three-quarter court zone press that Taylor never could solve.

"We thought if we got Aaron at the top of that zone he could get his hands on some passes," said Frankton coach Brent Brobston. With Taylor limited to 17 first-half shots, all that remained to put the blowout in motion was to score and in that area the Eagles also excelled.

Frankton got good shots by making the Titans' defense move side to side and by cutting into the zone to get precision passes for easy shots. For the game, the Eagles hit 36-of-54 from the field. Not often can a team score 89 points and miss just 18 shots.

The Eagles put five players in double figures topped by Korn and Jordan Reeves with 16 points each. Bailey Threet came off the bench for 13 points while Austin Compton added 12 and Nick Wright had 10.

"It is nice to have depth," said Brobston. "It gives us the flexibility to do some things. We like to have three or four players in double figures each game. Our first game we just had two."

If there's any one thing the Eagles didn't do well it was execute the 2-3 zone to start the second half. The Titans scored 23 points in the third quarter against that defense after getting just 12 in the entire first half.

"I thought we got a bit lazy in the 2-3 in that third quarter," said Brobston. "We have to understand that we need to slow the game down sometimes and play that zone."

Frankton won the rebound battle 28-20 with Reeves pulling down six boards.

Calvin Wheeler was the only Titan in double figures. He scored 10 points.

The Eagles (2-0) are at home on Friday against Tipton.
