Angie Colip: End of bowling season looms ahead

Another bowling season is coming to an end. As the leagues are wrapping up, position rounds are determining the final standing’s, pay-outs are being made and some are trying to figure out how to improve for next season.

Although the majority are looking forward to summer and a few months off, others are planning their summer league schedule. Most consider bowling a winter sport but some avid bowlers continue on throughout the summer. Summer leagues are now forming, so check with your local center to see what short season programs are being offered. There are a variety of options and I am sure that one could fit into your schedule.

I, on the other hand, will not be bowling but spending a lot of time in a bowling center. The only event I am participating in is the women’s state this weekend. After that, my season is over. Well, my leagues pay-out and one last night spent with the girls next week will wrap it up for me.

My boys will continue to bowl this summer. Summer league, TKO’s, Junior Gold in Michigan, Master’s and Queen’s and I am sure a few other tournaments will surface for them. As I have said before, this is a passion for my family. Bowling is in our blood.

If there are any special tournaments or information that you would like me to cover this summer, please let me know as soon as possible. My schedule is rather hectic, as always, but I will need to get it onto my calendar so I can try and schedule around it.

There are some important dates that are coming up. Tomorrow is the final date of youth bowling and the last date for scores to count towards scholarship money. The end of season banquets will be held on Saturday, May 4. All of Mary’s Kids, Bumpers, Preps and Noon Optimist will begin at 10:00am. Juniors and Majors will start at noon.

This Sunday will be the INJBT tournament held at Cooper’s. Start time is 9:00am. This is a tournament for youth to compete on a sports shot locally and gain valuable experience.

Sunday, May 5th will be the 5th Annual Best of the Best Tournament held at Cooper’s. To be invited, you must be a sanctioned and rostered member of a league and a male must have bowled a 700 series, and a female must have bowled a 600 series. This is a great opportunity to see some of the area’s best bowlers compete.

Also this summer is a great opportunity for high school bowlers to participate in a Summer Camp and Tournament. From July 17-21, Cooper’s Sport Bowl along with Anderson University will host this great program to focus on team building, individual development and collegiate bowling information. This is open to all incoming high school freshman through 2013 graduating seniors. For more information please contact Cooper’s at 642-4961.
