Eagles cruise to 65-47 victory over Argylls

FAIRMOUNT – It was business as usual for the Class 2A No. 3-ranked Frankton Eagles as they coasted to a ho-hum 65-47 victory over Madison-Grant in a Central Indiana Conference contest on Friday night in Fairmount.

“It’s a big win if it’s on the road and a conference game and we have to continue to win,” Frankton coach Brent Brobston said. “I was happy to see us execute the offense early against their zone and our defensive rotations were much better tonight.”

Frankton scored the first six points of the game and led 23-9 after the first quarter and 38-14 at the half after shooting 62 percent from the field and going 10-of-14 from the free throw line. They led 54-30 after three quarters before Madison-Grant took the last period 17-11. The Argylls shot 50 percent in the second half after making just 22 percent in the first half.

“From our view, we were trying to get better and we did that tonight,” Madison-Grant coach Brian Trout said. “I liked a lot of things we did offensively in the first half, we just couldn’t throw it in the ocean. We were getting good looks they just didn’t go down.”

Aaron Korn led the Eagles with 15 points and seven rebounds, hitting 7-of-12 field goals. Brady Ashton had 14 points, six rebounds and three assists, and Jordan Reeves was also in double figures with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Austin Compton had five points and four assists, and Nick Wright added five points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals.

“Reeves played really well and Ashton hit some big shots to get us going,” Brobston said. “We got some good looks and took some high percentage shots. We were patient in the half court offense.”

Frankton shot 58 percent from the field, including 20-of-30 through three quarters and also made 5-of-9 shots from 3-point range. Madison-Grant finished at 38 percent shooting, including 4-of-12 from behind the arc.
