AU softball introduces season with a win

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Anderson University softball team defeated Fontbonne University 4-1 in the season opener on Sunday. They lost the second game to Otterbein 6-5.

Against Fontbonne, Hannah Belvo was the winning pitcher, allowing six hits and one run in 6.2 innings while striking out five. Sami Frazier got the final out to earn the save.

Taylar Kelso led the Raven offense with two hits and three RBIs, including the game-winning double. Morgan Burke added a hit and two runs and Blake Thomas chipped in with an RBI.

Against Otterbein, Burke led the offense with two hits, a run and an RBI and Katie McCool had two hits and a run scored.

Sami Frazier also had two hits and Nichole Frazier hit a home run.

Sami Frazier took the loss on the mound, despite allowing four hits and just one earned run in six innings while striking out four.

AU (1-1) plays Hope and Trinity on Monday in Clermont at 9 a.m.
