AU baseball sweeps HCAC doubleheader

FRANKLIN, Ind. — The Anderson University baseball team swept conference team, Franklin College.

The Ravens won the first game 3-2 and the second contest 12-11.

In the first game, Nolan Schaefer earned his fourth victory of the season without a loss, allowing six hits and one run in seven innings while striking out seven. Nick Nunez tossed the final two innings to get the save, allowing two hits and one run with a strikeout.

Cole Heberling and Andrew Eiler led the Raven offense with two hits and an RBI each in the seventh inning. Jeremy Shelmadine also had a hit and an RBI and Zack Hufferd and Jordan Ball each added a double.

In the second game, Heberling led the offense with four hits, four runs and two RBIs, including a pair of doubles.

Hufferd had three hits, two RBIs and Jacob Craft had two hits, two runs and four RBIs, including a pair of home runs. Shelmadine chipped in with two hits and two runs scored.

The Ravens built a 12-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth, but the Grizzlies scored eight runs before a flyout to centerfield with the tying and winning run in scoring position.

Blake Hall earned the victory on the mound, allowing seven hits and three runs in six innings while striking out four. Brad Ellis and Chandler Farrow both pitched shutout innings before Lane Hanzel was able to get the final two outs.

AU (14-5, 7-2 HCAC) travels to Franklin on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Softball

The Anderson University softball team swept a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader

ANDERSON — The No. 23-ranked Ravens won the first game 10-2 in five innings and the second contest 5-4 in eight innings, marking their 11th and 12th straight victories in a row.

In the first game, Yardley Collett led the Ravens with a three-run homer and four RBI.
