Lady Ravens refusing to lose

ANDERSON, Ind. — The Anderson University softball team swept Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Transylvania University on Saturday at Raven Field to finish a perfect 8-0 at home this season.

The Ravens won the first game 10-2 in six innings and were victorious in the second contest 4-3 in eight innings.

In the first game, Nichole Frazier led the Raven offense with four hits, three runs and two RBIs, including a home run.

Sorcha Cox had three hits, three RBIs and Blake Thomas added two hits, four runs and two RBIs, including a home run.

Katie McCool, Morgan Burke and Samantha Steele chipped in with two hits each as the Lady Raven’s finished with 17 in the game.

Sami Frazier improved to 10-3 on the season, allowing seven hits and two runs in six innings while striking out seven.

In the second game, Yardley Collett drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning after Steele had doubled and McCool and Burke each added infield hits.

In the second game, Collett led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, including a home run. Burke had two hits and Brynn Gooding and Steele each had a hit and an RBI.

Hannah Belvo improved to 7-1 on the season, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out two.

AU (21-6, 11-1 HCAC) needs one more victory to clinch its second HCAC regular season championship in three years. They travel to Ohio Northern on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

First win in split backfires

The Anderson University baseball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Bluffton University 10-6 on Saturday at Don Brandon Field.

The two teams split the first two games on Friday with Anderson winning the first game 5-4 and Bluffton the second contest 10-9.

Jeremy Shelmadine led the Raven offense with two hits and three RBIs, including a double.
