Angie Colip: New bowling era begins Sunday

This Sunday will mark the beginning of a new era for our local bowling associations. A new board will be determined for a new association formed as the result of a merger of the local men’s and women’s associations.

This is an exciting time for all local adult bowlers. Change is a necessity for the times. Associations all across the country are merging their adult associations and finding it to be successful. The youth association will stand on its own and remain its own entity.

An organizational meeting for the new Anderson, USBC BA will be held at 2 p.m. this Sunday at Shouts Sports Pub inside of Cooper’s Sport Bowl. I encourage all association members to attend. This will be the perfect time for your voice to be heard. Your concerns and questions will be addressed. A different perspective could give the new board something to think about before the new rules and regulations are approved.

The new board will not go into effect until Aug. 1. There is a lot of work to be done this summer by the new board. The next few months will focus on the organizational aspect of forming a new association. New by-laws must be written and compromises will need to be made from both sides. I hope that we will all support this new endeavor and its board with patience and understanding.

This is a learning experience for all of those involved and mistakes will be made. I am sure that there will be decisions that are made that not everyone will agree upon. This is to be expected, but the ultimate goal is the same for all of us. We want to make this the best association that we can to ensure a successful future.

There are pros and cons with all things new. With this merger, most feel that the pros outweigh the cons and we are moving forward into a new day and age. My hope is that we focus on the positives and look forward to the new opportunities that may arise as a merged association.

Prior to the organizational meeting, the Women’s Anderson USBC WBA Local Championship Tournament will hold their payout in conjunction with their annual meeting at 1 p.m., Sunday in the meeting room at Cooper’s Sport Bowl. At this time, all business outstanding will be finalized and the women’s association will be dissolved so that the merger may progress.

The women’s 600 Club will also be meeting at this time.

On a side note, we are in the process of putting together the history of bowling for our local associations. If you have any information that would pertain to this such as articles, records for high scores, information about local tournaments or if you just think that you may have something that would be of interest, please e-mail me at bowling@heraldbulletin.com. I also have a mailbox located inside of Cooper’s. Please drop me a note with your contact information and leave it at the front desk. I will get back with you as soon as possible.

Angie Colip’s weekly bowling column appears on Fridays.
